I AM directed by the Board of Trade to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 7th October, enclosing copy of a note from the Netherlands chargé d'affaires relative to the date for the opening of the Opium Conference at The Hague.

In reply, I am to inform you that the Board concur in the tenor of the reply which Sir E. Grey proposes to return to M. van der Goes, and that they would be glad if a copy of the programme of the conference could be sent to them as early as possible, in order that they inay, if necessary, consult the trade in this country on the subject.
